Abstract

In September 2023, the combined CPI for Denpasar City and Singaraja City was recorded as experiencing deflation as deep as 0.03 percent as indicated by a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018=100) from 115.19 in August 2023 to 115.15 in September 2023. Meanwhile Therefore, the inflation rate for the calendar year (year to date/ytd) for September 2023 is 1.68 percent. The year-on-year inflation rate (September 2023 to September 2022 or YoY) was recorded as high as 2.40 percent.

On an mtm basis, deflation occurred due to a decline in the prices of public consumption goods/services as indicated by a decline in the CPI in three expenditure groups, namely: group I (food, beverages and tobacco) by 0.25 percent; group IV (equipment, equipment and routine household maintenance) as deep as 0.16 percent; and group VIII (recreation, sports and culture) as deep as 0.16 percent. In contrast, seven groups recorded inflation, namely group XI (personal care and other services) as high as 0.21 percent; group X (food and beverage/restaurant provision) as high as 0.15 percent; group VII (information, communication and financial services) as high as 0.13 percent; group VI (transportation) as high as 0.05 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) as high as 0.03 percent; group III (housing, water, electricity and household fuel) as high as 0.01 percent; and group V (health) as high as 0.01 percent.

On a year-on-year (yoy) basis, Denpasar City recorded inflation of 2.31 percent, while Singaraja City recorded inflation of 3.03 percent. Nationally, the highest yoy inflation was recorded in Manokwari City (West Papua) at 5.26 percent. On the other hand, the lowest inflation was recorded in the cities of Manado (North Sulawesi) and Gorontalo (Gorontalo) at 1.16 percent each. If ranked by highest yoy inflation, Denpasar City is listed in 48th place, while Singaraja City is recorded in 24th place.
