Abstract

In April 2023, the CPI of Denpasar City and Singaraja City recorded inflation as high as 0.04 percent as indicated by an increase in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018=100) from 114.16 in March 2023 to 114.20 in April 2023. Meanwhile Meanwhile, the April 2023 calendar year inflation rate (year to date/ytd) was 0.84 percent. The year-on-year inflation rate (April 2023 against April 2022 or YoY) was recorded as high as 4.45 percent.

Inflation occurred due to an increase in the price of public consumption goods/services as indicated by an increase in the CPI for six expenditure groups, namely: group VI (transportation) as high as 1.06 percent; group XI (personal care and other services) as high as 0.52 percent; group VIII (recreation, sports and culture) as high as 0.32 percent; group V (health) as high as 0.09 percent; group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) as high as 0.04 percent; and group X (providing food and drinks/restaurants) as high as 0.03 percent. In contrast, four groups recorded deflation, namely group IV (equipment, equipment and routine household maintenance) of 1.48 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) as deep as 0.86 percent; group I (food, drink and tobacco) as deep as 0.03 percent; and group VII (information, communication and financial services) with a depth of 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, there was one group that recorded no change or stagnation, namely group IX (education).

Of the 90 CPI cities, 77 cities experienced inflation and 13 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Jayapura City (Papua) as high as 1.44 percent, while the lowest inflation was recorded in Sorong City (West Papua) as high as 0.01 percent. The deepest deflation was recorded in the City of Meulaboh (Aceh) by 0.70 percent, while the shallowest deflation was recorded in the City of Kotamobagu (North Sulawesi) and Pekanbaru (Riau) each by 0.01 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation, Denpasar City ranks 73rd out of 77 cities experiencing inflation. Meanwhile, Singaraja City was ranked 5th out of 13 cities that experienced deflation.
