Abstract

In February 2023, the CPI of Denpasar City and Singaraja City recorded inflation as high as 0.07 percent as indicated by an increase in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018=100) from 114.00 in January 2023 to 114.08 in February 2023. Meanwhile Meanwhile, the February 2023 calendar year inflation rate (year to date/ytd) was 0.73 percent. The year-on-year inflation rate (February 2023 against February 2022 or YoY) was recorded as high as 6.35 percent.

Inflation occurred due to an increase in the price of public consumption goods/services as indicated by an increase in the CPI for five expenditure groups, namely: group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) as high as 0.85 percent; group I (food, drink and tobacco) as high as 0.54 percent; group VIII (recreation, sports and culture) as high as 0.30 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) as high as 0.17 percent; and group X (providing food and drinks/restaurants) as high as 0.05 percent. In contrast, four groups recorded deflation, namely group IV (equipment, equipment and routine household maintenance) by 2.21 percent; group VI (transportation) as deep as 0.38 percent; group XI (personal care and other services) as deep as 0.09 percent; and group VII (information, communication and financial services) with a depth of 0.05 percent.

Of the 90 CPI cities, 63 cities experienced inflation and 27 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Ternate City (North Maluku) as high as 1.85 percent. Meanwhile, the lowest inflation was recorded at 0.04 percent which occurred in four cities, namely Denpasar City (Bali), Bengkulu City (Bengkulu), Madiun City (East Java) and Lubuklinggau City (South Sumatra). The deepest deflation was recorded in Gunungsitoli City (North Sumatra) 0.98 percent, while the shallowest deflation was recorded in Sumenep City (East Java) 0.02 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation, Denpasar City ranks 60th and Singaraja City ranks 25th out of 63 cities experiencing inflation.
