Abstract

In October 2022 the Combined CPI of Denpasar City and Singaraja City was recorded to experience deflation as deep as 0.05 percent as indicated by a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018=100) from 112.45 in September 2022 to 112.39 in October 2022. Meanwhile , the inflation rate for the calendar year (year to date/ytd) in October 2022 was 5.39 percent. The year-on-year inflation rate (October 2022 against October 2021 or YoY) was recorded as high as 6.99 percent.

Deflation occurred due to the decline in the prices of public consumption goods/services as indicated by the decline in the CPI in two expenditure groups, namely: group I (food, beverages and tobacco) by 1.20 percent; and group VII (information, communication, and financial services) as deep as 0.43 percent. Meanwhile, eight other groups recorded inflation, namely group IV (equipment, equipment and routine household maintenance) as high as 1.43 percent; group VI (transportation) as high as 1.00 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) as high as 0.60 percent; group VIII (recreation, sports, and culture) as high as 0.24 percent; group X (providing food and beverages/restaurants) as high as 0.14 percent; group V (health) as high as 0.13 percent; and group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) as high as 0.06 percent. On the other hand, group IX (education) in October 2022 was recorded to be stagnant.

Of the 90 CPI cities, 61 cities experienced deflation and 29 cities experienced inflation. The deepest deflation was recorded in Gunungsitoli City (North Sumatra) as deep as 1.48 percent, while the shallowest deflation was recorded in Sampit City (Central Kalimantan) as deep as 0.01 percent. The highest inflation was recorded in the City of Manokwari (West Papua) as high as 0.76 percent, while the lowest inflation was recorded in the cities of Cilacap (Central Java), Sintang (South Kalimantan), and Gorontalo (Gorontalo), each as high as 0.01 percent. If sorted from deepest deflation, Denpasar City ranks 58th and Singaraja City ranks 38th out of 61 cities experiencing deflation.
