Abstract
In March 2021 the City of Denpasar experienced inflation as high as 0.47 percent as indicated by an increase in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018 = 100) from 104.81 in February 2021 to 105.30 in March 2021. Meanwhile, the inflation rate for the calendar year (year to date / ytd) and year-on-year inflation rates (March 2021 against March 2020 or YoY) were recorded as high as 1.04 percent and 0.52 percent, respectively.
Of the eleven expenditure groups, eight expenditure groups recorded inflation, namely group I (food, beverages and tobacco) as high as 1.80 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) as high as 0.61 percent; group VIII (recreation, sports, and culture) as high as 0.25 percent; group IV (equipment, tools, and routine household maintenance) as high as 0.18 percent; group VII (information, communication and financial services) as high as 0.12 percent; group XI (personal care and other services) as high as 0.10 percent; group X (provision of food and beverages / restaurants) as high as 0.01 percent; and group V (health) as high as 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, two expenditure groups recorded deflation, namely group VI (transportation) at 0.11 percent and group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) at 0.09 percent. One other expenditure group recorded that the index did not change or was stagnant, namely group IX (education).
Commodities recorded as contributing to or contributing to inflation in March 2021 include, among others, cayenne pepper, purebred chicken, air transport rates, preserved tuna, mango, onions, oranges, disposable diapers, tomatoes, and white cigarettes.
Of the 90 CPI cities, 58 cities experienced inflation and 32 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Kota Jayapura (Papua) as high as 1.07 percent, while the lowest inflation was recorded in Kota Tangerang (Banten) and Kota Banjarmasin (South Kalimantan) as high as 0.01 percent respectively. Meanwhile, the deepest deflation was recorded in Bau-Bau City (Southeast Sulawesi) at 0.99 percent, while the lowest deflation was recorded in Palopo City (South Sulawesi) as deep as 0.01 percent. If sorted from highest inflation, Denpasar City ranks 9 out of 58 cities experiencing inflation.
