Development of the Consumer Price Index / Inflation in Denpasar City March 2019

Abstract

In March 2019, Denpasar City experienced inflation of 0.24 percent with the Consumer Price Index (2012 CPI = 100) of 132.05. The inflation rate for the March 2019 calendar year was recorded at 0.42 percent while the year-on-year inflation rate (March 2019 to March 2018 or YoY) was recorded at 2.05 percent.

 

Four expenditure groups recorded inflation (m to m), namely group I (foodstuffs) by 0.73 percent; group VII (transportation, communication and financial services) by 0.34 percent; group V (health) by 0.29 percent; and group II (processed food, drinks, cigarettes, and tobacco) 0.27 percent. Meanwhile, the other three groups recorded deflation, namely group IV (clothing) by -0.13 percent; group III (housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel) by -0.09 percent; and group VI (education, recreation, and sports) by -0.08 percent.

 

Commodities recorded as contributing or contributing to inflation in March 2019 include: air freight rates, pindang tuna, young jackfruit, shallots, garlic, apples, spinach, and gold jewelry.

 

Out of 82 CPI cities, 51 cities experienced inflation and 31 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Ambon (Maluku) of 0.86 percent while the lowest inflation was recorded in Bekasi (West Java) and Tangerang (Banten) by 0.01 percent. The deepest deflation was recorded in Tual (Maluku) of -3.03 percent and was undermined in Palembang (South Sumatra), Batam (Riau Islands) and Sampit (Central Kalimantan) by -0.01 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation, Denpasar ranks 26th out of 51 cities experiencing inflation.
