Abstract

In February 2021, Denpasar City experienced deflation as deep as 0.20 percent as indicated by a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018 = 100) from 105.02 in January 2021 to 104.81 in February 2021. Meanwhile, the inflation rate for the calendar year (year to date / ytd) and year-on-year inflation rates (February 2021 against February 2020 or YoY) were recorded as high as 0.57 percent and 0.16 percent, respectively.


Of the eleven expenditure groups, six expenditure groups recorded deflation, namely group XI (personal care and other services) at 0.87 percent; group VI (transportation) as deep as 0.70 percent; group VIII (recreation, sports, and culture) at 0.63 percent; group IV (equipment, tools, and household routine maintenance) as deep as 0.35 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) as deep as 0.22 percent; and group I (food, beverages, and tobacco) as deep as 0.16 percent. Meanwhile, three expenditure groups recorded inflation, namely group X (provision of food and beverages / restaurants) as high as 0.18 percent; group VII (information, communication and financial services) as high as 0.03 percent; and group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) as high as 0.01 percent. Two other expenditure groups recorded that the index did not change or were stagnant, namely group V (health) and group IX (education).


Commodities recorded as contributing to or contributing to deflation in February 2021 include chicken meat, air transport rates, oranges, tomatoes, gold jewelry, red onions, canang sari, disposable baby diapers, children's toys, and mangoes.


Of the 90 CPI cities, 34 cities experienced deflation and 56 cities experienced inflation. The deepest deflation was recorded in Gunungsitoli as deep as 1.55 percent, while the lowest deflation was recorded in Kota Malang and Kota Tarakan as deep as 0.01 percent respectively. Meanwhile, the highest inflation was recorded in Kota Mamuju as high as 1.12 percent, while the lowest inflation was recorded in Kota Tasikmalaya and Kota Sumenep as high as 0.02 percent respectively. If sorted from the deepest deflation, Denpasar City ranks 21 out of 34 cities experiencing deflation.
