Abstract

In February 2019 the city of Denpasar recorded a deflation of -0.43 percent with the Consumer Price Index (2012 CPI = 100) amounting to 131.74. The inflation rate for the calendar year of February 2019 was recorded at 0.18 percent while the year-on-year inflation rate (February 2019 against February 2018 or YoY) was recorded at 1.96 percent.

 

The two expenditure groups recorded deflation (m to m), namely group VII (transportation, communication and financial services) of -2.22 percent and group I (foodstuffs) by -1.20 percent. Meanwhile, the other five groups recorded inflation, namely group V (health) by 0.85 percent, group II (processed food, beverages, cigarettes, and tobacco) by 0.57 percent; group IV (clothing) by 0.44 percent; group III (housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel) 0.16 percent; and group VI (education, recreation, and sports) of 0.09 percent.

 

Commodities recorded as contributing or contributing to deflation in February 2019 include: air freight rates, race chicken, non-subsidized gasoline, cayenne pepper, shallots, chili red, and bottled water.

 

Of the 82 CPI cities, 69 cities experienced deflation and 13 cities experienced inflation. The deepest deflation was recorded in Merauke (Papua) of -2.11 percent and was the most negligible in Serang (Banten) of -0.02 percent. The highest inflation was recorded in Tual (Maluku) of 2.98 percent while the lowest inflation was recorded in Kendari (Southeast Sulawesi) of 0.03 percent. If it is sorted from the deepest deflation, then Denpasar ranks 23rd out of 69 cities experiencing deflation.
