Abstract

In October 2020, Denpasar City experienced deflation of -0.25 percent as indicated by a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018 = 100) from 103.63 in September 2020 to 103.37 in October 2020. Meanwhile, the year deflation rate running in October 2020 was recorded at -0.27 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (October 2020 against October 2019 or YoY) was recorded as high as 0.49 percent.


Of the eleven expenditure groups, four expenditure groups recorded deflation, namely group IV (equipment, tools, and routine household maintenance) at -2.96 percent; group VI (transportation) as deep as -0.34 percent; group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) at -0.16 percent; and group XI (personal care and other services) at -0.07 percent.


Meanwhile, three expenditure groups recorded inflation, namely group II (clothing and footwear) as high as 0.13 percent; group I (food, beverages, and tobacco) as high as 0.08 percent; and group VII (information, communication and financial services) as high as 0.06 percent. Four expenditure groups recorded that the index did not change or were stagnant, namely group V (health); group VIII (recreation, sports and culture); group IX (education); and group X (providing food and beverage / restaurant).


Commodities recorded as contributing or contributing to deflation in October 2020 include canang sari, mango, air transport rates, watermelon, electricity rates, gold jewelry, eggs, sheets, papaya and bananas.


Of the 90 CPI cities, 24 cities experienced deflation and 66 cities experienced inflation. The deepest deflation was recorded in Manokwari (West Papua) as deep as -1.81 percent while the lowest deflation was recorded in Surabaya (East Java) as deep as -0.02 percent. Meanwhile, the highest inflation was recorded in Sibolga (North Sumatra) as high as 1.04 percent, while the lowest inflation was recorded in Jakarta (DKI Jakarta), Cirebon (West Java), Bekasi (West Java), and Jember (East Java). 0.01 percent. If sorted from the deepest deflation, Denpasar ranks 12th out of 24 cities experiencing deflation.
