Abstract

  • In April 2019, Singaraja City recorded inflation of 0.39 percent with the Consumer Price Index (2012 CPI = 100) of 143.68. The inflation rate for the calendar year was recorded at 0.98 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (April 2019 to April 2018 or YoY) was 1.63 percent.
  • Inflation (m to m) is indicated by an increase in the index in five expenditure groups, namely group I (foodstuffs) by 0.87 percent; group IV (clothing) and group V (health) respectively by 0.49 percent; group II (processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco) by 0.48 percent and group VII (transportation, communication and financial services) by 0.20 percent. While the group recorded a decline in index or deflation was in group VI (education, recreation, and sports) by -0.06 percent and group III (housing, water, electricity and fuel) by -0.03 percent.
  • Commodities listed as contributing or contributing to inflation in April 2019 include: shallots, vegetable tomatoes, chicken eggs, apples, garlic, motorbikes, fresh anchovies, liniment, spinach and squid.
  • Out of 82 CPI cities, 77 cities experienced inflation and 5 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Medan (North Sumatra) at 1.30 percent and the lowest in Pare-Pare (South Sulawesi) at 0.03 percent. The deepest deflation was recorded in Manado (North Sulawesi) of -1.27 percent and the lowest was recorded in Maumere (East Nusa Tenggara) of -0.04 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation, Singaraja ranks 45th out of 77 cities experiencing inflation.
