Abstract

In January 2019, Denpasar City experienced inflation of 0.62 percent with the Consumer Price Index (2012 CPI = 100) amounting to 132.31. The inflation rate for the January 2019 calendar year was recorded at 0.62 percent while the year-on-year inflation rate (January 2019 to January 2018 or YoY) was recorded at 3.07 percent.


All expenditure groups experienced inflation (m to m), namely group II (processed food, beverages, cigarettes, and tobacco) of 1.36 percent; group VII (transportation, communication and financial services) of 1.18 percent; group I (foodstuff) by 0.43 percent; group IV (clothing) by 0.26 percent; group III (housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel) 0.22 percent; group VI (education, recreation and sports) by 0.17 percent; and group V (health) by 0.11 percent.


Commodities listed as contributing or contributing to inflation in January 2019 include: air freight rates, house rental rates, broiler meat, shallots, bottled water, and cayenne pepper.


Of the 82 CPI cities, 73 cities experienced inflation and 9 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Tanjung Pandan (Bangka Belitung) of 1.23 percent while the lowest inflation was recorded in Pematang Siantar (North Sumatra) of 0.01 percent. The deepest deflation was recorded in Tual (North Maluku) of 0.87 percent and was undermined in Merauke (Papua) by 0.01 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation, Denpasar ranks 17th out of 73 cities experiencing inflation.
