Abstract

In May 2023 Denpasar City recorded inflation as high as 0.34 percent as indicated by an increase in the Consumer Price Index (2018=100 base year) from 114.01 in April to 114.40 in May 2023. Meanwhile, the calendar year inflation rate (year to date/ytd) and year-on-year inflation rates (May 2023 against May 2022 or year on year /yoy) were recorded as high as 1.09 percent and 4.09 percent.

Of the eleven expenditure groups, six expenditure groups experienced inflation (m to m), namely group IV (equipment, equipment and routine household maintenance) of 1.69 percent; group I (food, drink and tobacco) by 1.40 percent; group XI (personal care and other services) of 0.28 percent; group X (providing food and drinks/restaurants) by 0.09 percent; group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) by 0.05 percent; group V (health) by 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, four other expenditure groups recorded deflation, namely group VIII (recreation, sports and culture) of -1.19 percent; group VI (transportation) by -1.05 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) by -0.23 percent; group VII (information, communication and financial services) by -0.01 percent. Meanwhile, group IX (education) did not experience any changes in the index or was recorded as stagnant.

Of the 90 cities monitored by the National Inflation, 77 cities experienced inflation and the others experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Tanjung Pandan (Bangka Belitung) as high as 1.28 percent, while the deepest deflation was recorded in Kupang City (East Nusa Tenggara) as deep as 0.79 percent. If sorted from the highest inflation, Denpasar City with inflation as high as 0.34 percent ranks 25th out of 77 cities experiencing inflation.
