Abstract
In February 2019 the city of Singaraja recorded a deflation of -0.34 percent with the Consumer Price Index (2012 CPI = 100) of 142.62. The inflation rate for the calendar year is recorded at 0.24 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (February 2019 against February 2018 or YoY) is 1.00 percent.
Deflation (m to m) is indicated by a decrease in the index in three expenditure groups, namely group I (foodstuffs) by -1.59 percent; group VII (transportation, communication, and financial services) amounted to -0.35 percent and group VI (education, recreation, and sports) at -0.19 percent. While the group that recorded an increase in index or inflation was group II (processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco) by 0.57 percent; group V (health) by 0.42 percent; group IV (clothing) by 0.39 percent and group III (housing, water, electricity and fuel) by 0.04 percent.
Commodities recorded as contributing or contributing to deflation in February 2019 include: chicken meat, cayenne pepper, shallots, non-subsidized gasoline, broiler eggs, bananas, cucumbers, cooking oil, soft drinks, color television and apples.
Of the 82 CPI cities, 69 cities experienced deflation and 13 cities experienced inflation. The deepest deflation was recorded in Merauke (Papua) of -2.11 percent and the lowest in Serang (Banten) was -0.02 percent. The highest inflation was recorded in Tual (Maluku) of 2.98 percent while the lowest inflation was recorded in Kendari (Southeast Sulawesi) of 0.03 percent. If sorted from the deepest deflation, Singaraja ranks 30th out of 69 cities that have experienced deflation.
