OPENING PKL POLYTECHNIC STATISTICS STIS

OPENING PKL POLYTECHNIC STATISTICS STIS

February 18, 2019 | Other Activities

Deputy Governor of Bali Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati (Cok Ace) officially opened the STIS Statistics Polytechnic Fieldwork (PKL) at the Main Wiswasabha Building, Bali Governor's Office, Monday (18/2).

In his remarks, Deputy Governor Cok Ace expressed his appreciation and welcomed the choice of Bali as a research location for students, especially as this research was related to the agricultural sector. Many things can be explored from the community, especially farmers in Bali, where agriculture in Bali always puts forward the concept of balance known as Tri Hita Karana. "In Balinese agriculture, it is not only the concept of Tri Hita Karana, there is also the concept of subak, terracing and many other local wisdom that are very relevant to the principles of environmentally sound development," he added.

Furthermore in his remarks, Deputy Governor Cok Ace conveyed that agricultural development is one of the focuses of Bali's development in the vision of Nangun Sat Kerthi Loka Bali, where this vision implies maintaining the sanctity and harmony of Bali's nature and its contents. To support this policy, the availability of quality data is needed both in the development planning and evaluation. "We need much variety of up-to-date and up-to-date data support, we hope that the results of street vendors from these students can provide a reference in the formulation of policies specifically related to agriculture," he said.

The opening ceremony was also attended by the Head of the Republic of Indonesia BPS Kecuk Suhariyanto. In his speech, Kecuk expressed his deepest gratitude to the Deputy Governor, along with the ranks of the Bali Provincial Government for his extraordinary remarks to the large family of STIS.

STL 58th Polytechnic PKL was attended by 516 students who will be deployed in 252 villages in 25 sub-districts in 5 Regencies in Bali namely Badung, Gianyar, Tabanan, Klungkung and Denpasar City and held for two weeks. In this street vendor, students will focus on food data, food area and changes in cropping patterns that will be carried out by collecting research sample data, field measurements and direct interviews with farmers. With this street vendor it is hoped that accurate data can be obtained which can be the basis for Bali Provincial Government planning, especially in agriculture.

This street vendor takes the topic "New Era of Food Data: Implementation of Area Sample Framework and Study of Planting Patterns and Characteristics of Farmers in Sarbagita and Klungkung". Called a new era because of subjective measurement to be objective measurement, and from manual to digital.

Kecuk explained, the topic of food was chosen because this topic was very strategic and was a priority of the government. Last October 2018, BPS released food data after stopping for 2 years. This is done solely in order to produce data that is truly accurate, reliable and uses the latest technology as a result of collaboration with BIG, LAPAN, BPPT and the ATR / BPN Ministry. Alhamdulillah, we get a positive appreciation both domestically and internationally. Of course there are pros and cons to the data released at that time, but over time with good communication with all parties, BPS data is the only reference in food decision making in the country.

Meanwhile, Bali was chosen as the location of street vendors because Bali is one of the rice barns outside Java, with high land productivity. In addition, the typical contours and geographical reliefs of Bali are suitable for testing the implementation of KSA in terraced rice fields with small plots. Bali is also interesting for studying the relationship between social factors and productivity. In terms of tourism, there are also many domestic and foreign tourists visiting the rice fields in Bali such as in the Tegal Alang area or Ubud for example. I am sure, our millennial children will flood the social media with photos of their selfies in Instagramable spots at the time of the street vendors later.

However, it needs to be realized that this work is quite heavy, because each student is advised to "feel" the three different survey approaches. Approach area for KSA study, event approach for study of productivity with rubber, and household approach to study cropping patterns and characteristics of farmers. As the Head of BPS, I am sure that this street vendor not only gives extraordinary experience to students, but also benefits BPS. Indeed, here is the role of STIS, as a support for the activities and development of BPS.
